Sendzimir’s standard backing assemblies include modified backing assemblies as well as a modified upper idler roll. This design has proven to be a significant improvement to new and existing mills. The results of this several years-long research effort has been to retain the rigid “die-like” capability of the Zero-crown monoblock housing, while at the same time allows for a much greater degree of shape control internal to the mill using the latest technological advances in machining techniques.

Our standard backing assembly shafts are solid, and therefore, will not bend in any complex shape other than the simple parabola. This characteristic means that this backing assembly system does not allow for the same dramatic position changes available with our segmented backing assembly, but instead, offers a predictable and consistent range for projects with smaller adjustment range needs.
The mill crown control can be set up for 4th order (1/4 buckle) shape control required for today’s strict shape requirements, as shown by the example waveforms in Figure 2. This waveform shape is infinitely adjustable for wave amplitude and phase position.
