ZH Skinpass Mills
Sendzimir ZH Skinpass mills offer a unique combination of low equipment cost, low foundation cost, sophisticated shape control, and quick-change work rolls designed to fit in-line with galvanizing lines. T. Sendzimir, Inc. has built over a dozen of these mills over the years, lending us invaluable, field-tested manufacturing experience. ZH Skinpass mills were originally designed to iron out the spangles in hot-dipped galvanized steel in-line with the galvanizing line as a pull-thru mill.
How Are Our ZH Skinpass Mills Designed?
The Sendzimir Skinpass mill is an original design that uses both a lower beam and an upper beam incorporated into a mechanically operated screw-down, which allows for easy roll gap adjustment of the strip. Each upper and lower beam acts to support a roll stack cluster in an arrangement similar to our classical 12-high mill design(1-2-3).
The ZH Skinpass mill’s typical backing assemblies are equipped with 10 to 15 bearings in-line depending upon strip width. Work rolls are typically 5.6″ (142 mm) in diameter, non-chock supported, non-motorized, and supported along their entire length by their backing assemblies.

The ability to quickly change your work rolls allows for seamless mill production and optimized efficiency. Improving equipment productivity is one of Sendzimir’s primary goals when manufacturing mills, and we have accomplished this goal once again with our ZH Skinpass mill design.
ZH Skinpass Mill Efficiency
To date, ZH Skinpass users, as well as specialized research conducted at institutes such as IRSID, have found no variance in the transfer of roll surface roughness as a function of the roll diameter—the only important factor to this transfer is the working pressure of the mill.
As with our standard 20-High cluster mills, this Skinpass mill uses a small work roll concept to allow for a high-contact pressure along a small working area. Thus the overall size and strength of the mill are reduced compared to a conventional 2-High or 4-High of the same width range.

An entire ZH skinpass mill is light enough to be mounted on a platform above the floor line and placed into a process line configuration as required. No heavy cranes or robots are necessary for roll change either, making our design simple to incorporate into your systems of operations.
